Workshop: How We Brewed Beerfest Asia Birthday Beer - White IPA?

By Archipelago Brewery Singapore, Clive Tan (Assistant Brewer of Archipelago)

The White IPA is a beer style born from a brain storming session back in 2010 and it was a collaboration between Oregon-based Deschutes Brewery and Boulevard Brewing. Technically a marriage of two distinct beer styles;
the American IPA with its heavily hopped character and the Belgian Wit with its refreshing and spicy presence.
Made up of Pale Pilsner malt, Malted Wheat and Rolled Oats, that’s the grain bill at its most basic. Addition of rolled oats to enhance flavour complexity and mouth feel without adding fermentable sugars. The main deviation from Belgian Wit is when we talk about hopping schedule. Basically, it is wide open when it comes to hops addition. Keeping that in mind, the choice here is a well blend of citrusy and piney aroma/flavour profile.
